The Western Slope is open to hunting, hiking, and mountain biking. During muzzle loader or rifle seasons, hiking and biking are allowed at night and on Sundays only. Discretion and caution should be used by all users during this time (October 31st until January 31st). Please call Resort Security at 540.289.4054 or resort ext. 55400 or the Bike Shop at 540.289.4957 with any access questions. View more info about the Western Slope here.
Do not feed the wildlife (deer, bears, groundhogs, skunks, cats, etc). It is illegal in Virginia. When animals associate humans with food they lose their fear and seek out people, making them more likely to raid public areas and destroy property. Then they become susceptible to being hit by cars or killed by poachers, and becoming dangerous and needing to be relocated or destroyed.
The management of Massanutten Resort and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are working together to provide a safe coexistence between bears and humans. Your help in these endeavors is greatly appreciated.
