A full winter week on the mountain gives your family time to settle into the season and enjoy each day. There’s room for snowy mornings outside, cozy afternoons indoors, a little exploring beyond the resort, and slower evenings together after a day of fun. With a full week ahead, you can follow the weather, revisit family favorites, and enjoy the kind of moments that make a winter getaway feel special. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to create your own family winter week.
Arrival + easy on-site activity: Ice skating
Welcome to Massanutten! After checking in and getting settled, start the week with a few relaxed laps around the seasonal outdoor ice rink. Get your first taste of winter on the mountain, then head to Campfire Grill for dinner. Try one of the delicious signature dishes, like the skillet-baked cornbread, before settling in for the night.

Full on-site day: Snow tubing + Massanutten Select class
Start with breakfast at Waffle Hut near Base Camp, then head to the tubing hill for a fun morning on the snow. With no special skills required and a conveyor lift carrying you back uphill, everyone can jump right into the fun, race down the lanes, and keep going for run after run. For a little more adventure, add a ride on the nearby Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster before breaking for lunch.
After lunch, warm up indoors with a Massanutten Select class. Check the event schedule and choose something the family can enjoy together, like canvas painting, suncatcher making, or candle making. It’s a chance to slow the pace, get creative together, and spend a little time making something after a morning out in the snow.
Regional excursion #1: Luray Caverns
Take a day trip to Luray Caverns and head underground to explore towering stone formations, Dream Lake, the Cathedral, and the Great Stalacpipe Organ. The caverns stay around 54 degrees year-round, making this an easy winter excursion when you’re ready for a day away from the snow. Grab lunch in Luray before making your way back to Massanutten.
On-site recovery day: Indoor Waterpark + Build-A-Bear
Warm up at the Indoor Waterpark, where it feels like summer even in the middle of winter. Spend the morning on the slides and indoor attractions, then grab lunch on-site before slowing things down with a stop at The Market so the kids can make their own stuffed friend at Build-A-Bear.
Tonight, skip another restaurant reservation. Grab dinner to go or make something in your condo, break out a favorite board game, and enjoy an easy family night in.
Regional excursion #2: Explore More Discovery Museum
Head into downtown Harrisonburg for a day at Explore More Discovery Museum, where kids can climb, build, experiment, and explore their way through hands-on exhibits. Afterward, grab lunch downtown and spend a little time wandering the shops or stopping for a sweet treat before heading back to the mountain.
Flexible on-site day: Perfect Break
Keep your last full day relaxed with some indoor fun at Perfect Break. Challenge the family to a round of Swing Golf, test your skills with GameUp esports, and grab lunch with table service right inside. It’s an easy way to spend the afternoon together without having to bundle up. Later, check the resort event calendar for live music, comedy, or other family-friendly entertainment to round out the evening.
Easy morning + checkout: Short on-site nature walk
Take one last breath of mountain air with an easy walk along one of Massanutten’s shorter on-site nature trails before packing up. Enjoy the quiet winter woods and a final look at the mountain before heading home. If your route takes you through Harrisonburg, stop for lunch at a local favorite like Magpie Diner or Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza on your way out.
