Your 7-Day Fall Adventure

Massanutten scenic fall aerial resort lodging forest 18

Fall transforms the Shenandoah Valley into part of the adventure, with changing color stretching from the mountain trails to Skyline Drive and the banks of the Shenandoah River. This seven-day itinerary takes advantage of the season with days spent riding, hiking, paddling, and exploring, balanced by a few well-earned chances to recharge back at the resort. It’s an exhilarating way to experience fall together, with vibrant scenery around you at every turn. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to build your own fall adventure.

Your 7 Day Adventure!

Day 1

Arrival + on-site adventure: Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster

Welcome to Massanutten! Once you’ve checked in and settled into your accommodations, start the week with a ride on the Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster, an alpine-style coaster that lets you control your speed as you twist and turn your way down the mountain. Watch the changing leaves blur past as you descend and kick off the week with a little fall adrenaline.

Afterward, settle in at Campfire Grill for wood-fired pizza, steaks, burgers, and other hearty favorites. If the weather is nice, grab a seat outside by the fire on the deck.

Day 2

Full on-site day: Mountain biking + Fishing at Painter’s Pond

Start the morning at the Massanutten Bike Park and spend a few hours exploring the mountain on two wheels. Newer riders can build confidence on more approachable terrain or join a group lesson, while experienced riders can take on lift-served downhill trails and more technical challenges beneath the changing canopy.

Grab lunch on-site, then head to Painter’s Pond for an afternoon of fishing. Bring your own poles and cast a few lines for trout and other species, or sign up for an afternoon fly-fishing lesson with gear included.

Finish the day at Base Camp with casual mountain fare and drinks, then see what’s happening around the resort. Weekends often bring live music, while karaoke, comedy, and other seasonal events can keep the evening going.

Day 3

Regional excursion #1: Shenandoah National Park + Skyline Drive

Spend the day exploring Shenandoah National Park along Skyline Drive, surrounded by some of the region’s most dramatic fall scenery. Stop at overlooks along the way, then trade the car for the trail and choose a hike that lets you experience the changing leaves on foot.

Afterward, grab lunch in nearby Elkton or continue into Harrisonburg before returning to Massanutten.

Day 4

On-site recovery day: Horseback riding + Perfect Break

Slow things down a little with a guided horseback ride through Massanutten’s wooded trails and open mountain scenery. Ride beneath the fall canopy, pass through quieter stretches of the resort, and experience the changing leaves from a completely different perspective.

After lunch on-site, settle in at Perfect Break for a round of virtual golf in one of the Topgolf Swing Suites. Order something to share, enjoy table service and drinks, and add a little friendly competition to an otherwise relaxed afternoon.

Tonight, pick up something to cook in your condo and enjoy an easy dinner together before another full day outside tomorrow.

Day 5

Regional excursion #2: Canoeing or kayaking on the Shenandoah River

Trade the mountain trails for the Shenandoah River and spend the day exploring the Valley from the water with Massanutten Adventures. Paddle a scenic seven-mile stretch and be sure to keep an eye out for bald eagles, blue herons, ducks, and other wildlife along the way. The trip is a good fit for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, with transportation from Massanutten, equipment, and a river orientation included.

Afterward, grab a bite in nearby Elkton or continue into Harrisonburg for dinner before making your way back to the mountain.

Day 6

Flexible on-site day: Scenic Chairlift + hiking

Start your final full day with a scenic chairlift ride above the changing leaves, with wide views stretching across the mountain and Shenandoah Valley. Once you’re back on the ground, lace up your hiking shoes and explore another side of Massanutten on foot. Choose from rocky ridge trails with sweeping views, wooded paths along the Western Slope, or a route that lets you spend more time beneath the colorful fall canopy.

Tonight, grab dinner on-site, then enjoy one last evening around the resort. If it’s a weekend, keep an eye out for live music at Base Camp, comedy, karaoke, or another seasonal event happening around the mountain.

Day 7

Easy morning + checkout: Short on-site nature walk

Take one last walk along one of Massanutten’s shorter nature trails and enjoy the fall scenery before checking out. If your route takes you through Elkton or Harrisonburg, stop for brunch or lunch along the way and stretch the getaway a little longer before the drive home.
