Winter adventure at Massanutten can stretch well beyond a single day on the slopes. This seven-day itinerary moves between the mountain and the surrounding Shenandoah Valley, with the energy of ski days balanced by opportunities to explore, recharge, and experience another side of the season. It’s a week that lets you lean into winter when the conditions are right, then change pace without ever losing that sense of being immersed in it. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to build your own winter adventure.
Arrival + easy on-site activity: Ice skating
Welcome to Massanutten! Once you’ve checked in and settled into your accommodations, ease into the week with some ice skating at the seasonal outdoor rink. Take a few laps together, enjoy the winter mountain setting, then head to Campfire Grill for a cozy dinner and a relaxed start to your stay.

Full on-site day: Skiing & snowboarding
Start the morning with a warm breakfast at Massanutten’s Waffle Hut near Base Camp, where waffles and other cozy favorites make a perfect start before heading to the slopes. Spend the day skiing or snowboarding together, from easier runs where you can settle into your turns to steeper terrain when you’re ready for more of a challenge.
When it’s time for lunch, ski right up to Mid-Mountain Grill, a slope-side stop you can reach while you’re out on the mountain, then head back out for another afternoon of runs.
After the lifts wind down, make your way to Base Camp for après drinks and dinner. If your stay includes a Friday night, check the schedule for the Torch Parade and watch skiers carrying glowing torches make their way down the slopes after dark.
Regional excursion #1: Shenandoah National Park / Skyline Drive
Trade the ski mountain for a road trip along Skyline Drive. Winter’s bare tree canopy opens up sweeping views across Shenandoah National Park, so take your time at the overlooks, bundle up for a short hike, then stop for lunch at a unique spot in nearby Elkton or head into Harrisonburg for even more delicious local dining before returning to Massanutten.
On-site recovery day: Spa + Massanutten Select class
Start the day with some time at The Spa at Massanutten. Choose from relaxing massages, facials, body treatments, and more, or book a couples massage and enjoy the experience side-by-side.
Grab lunch on-site, then spend the afternoon with a Massanutten Select class. Check the schedule and choose something that sounds good to you, whether that’s pottery making, canvas painting, a build-your-own terrarium workshop, yoga, or a relaxing sound bath.
Keep the evening easy with dinner in the condo and a game or movie night together.
Regional excursion #2: Local Wineries + Breweries
Spend the day exploring a little more of the Shenandoah Valley. Head to CrossKeys Vineyards for a wine tasting and Blue Ridge views, stop in nearby Elkton for a local brew, or venture into downtown Harrisonburg for cider at Sage Bird Ciderworks or a craft beer at Pale Fire Brewing Co. Pair your stop with dinner at a local restaurant before making your way back to the mountain.
Flexible on-site day: Skiing + Snowboarding + Perfect Break
Use your last full day to get back on the slopes for more skiing or snowboarding. Revisit favorite runs from earlier in the week, explore more of the mountain together, and make the most of one last full winter day outside.
If you’re ready for a break from the cold, head to Perfect Break instead for a round of virtual golf in one of the Topgolf Swing Suites, along with food, drinks, and table service. Later, check the resort event calendar for live music, comedy, karaoke, or other seasonal events happening around the mountain.
Easy morning + checkout: Short on-site nature walk
Before checking out, take one last walk along one of Massanutten’s shorter nature trails and enjoy the quiet winter scenery together. Then, start the drive home with a stop for brunch or lunch in a nearby town, or, if your route takes you through Harrisonburg, linger a little longer over a meal at a local favorite like Magpie Diner or Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza.
