Fall has a way of making even the smallest family moments feel a little more special on the mountain. This three-day getaway leaves room for colorful views, time to play indoors, and a few hands-on experiences the kids can make their own. It’s a weekend filled with the kind of shared moments that make fall feel worth getting away for. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to build your own family fall adventure.
Afternoon arrival: Scenic Chairlift
Welcome to Massanutten! Once you’ve checked in and settled into your accommodations, start the weekend with a scenic chairlift ride through the heart of fall color. Settle into your seat as the lift carries you above the changing leaves, with vibrant views of the mountain and Shenandoah Valley unfolding along the way.
Dinner: Campfire Grill
After your ride, head to Campfire Grill for wood-fired pizza, burgers, steaks, and other hearty favorites. If the weather is crisp and clear, grab a seat outside by the fire on the deck, then save room for a skillet of s’mores to share for a sweet finish to your first fall evening on the mountain.

Morning headline activity: Waterpark + Diamond Jim’s Arcade
Warm things up with a morning at Massanutten Waterpark, where slides, pools, and family-friendly attractions give everyone a break from the crisp fall air. When everyone gets hungry, stay inside for a sit-down lunch at Splash’s or something quick from the Snack Shack, then stop by Sweetz for a treat.
Before leaving the Waterpark, spend a little time at Diamond Jim’s Arcade and see who can come out on top in a few family games.
Afternoon: Massanutten Select class
Slow the pace down with a Massanutten Select class. Check the schedule and choose something the family can create together, like canvas painting, suncatcher making, candle making, or another hands-on experience.
Evening: Base Camp + fall entertainment
Settle in at Base Camp for casual mountain fare and dinner with views of the surrounding mountain. Afterward, check the resort event calendar to see what’s happening during your stay, whether that’s live music, comedy, or another family-friendly fall event.
Morning before checkout: Build-A-Bear at The Market + short nature walk
Spend your final morning with an easy walk along one of Massanutten’s shorter nature trails and enjoy the fall scenery before checking out. Then stop by The Market and let the kids create their own stuffed friend at Build-A-Bear to bring a little piece of the mountain home with them.
If your route takes you through Harrisonburg, stop for lunch at a local favorite like Magpie Diner or Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza before the drive home.
