This is a spring trip for families who want to get outside and experience the Shenandoah Valley together. The adventure stretches from riding and adventuring on the mountain to exploring Shenandoah National Park and paddling the Shenandoah River, with some favorite resort fun mixed in along the way. It’s a week of trying new things together, with the kind of adventures everyone will still be talking about on the ride home. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to build your own family adventure.
Arrival + easy on-site activity: Family Adventure Park + Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster
Welcome to Massanutten! Once you’ve checked in and settled into your accommodations, jump into your first afternoon at the Family Adventure Park. Take on the ropes courses, climbing wall, zip lines, gem mining, and other challenges together, then keep the momentum going with a ride on the nearby Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster, winding and twisting your way down the mountain.
Afterward, settle in at Campfire Grill for wood-fired pizza, burgers, steaks, and other hearty favorites. Enjoy dinner in the warm, rustic dining room or grab a seat outside by the fire on the deck and enjoy the cool spring weather.

Full on-site day: Mountain biking + Escape Room
Start your first full day on two wheels at the Massanutten Bike Park. Younger or newer riders can build confidence on beginner-friendly terrain, and group lessons are available for anyone who wants a little guidance before taking on the trails. More experienced riders can spend the morning exploring the lift-served downhill terrain and taking on bigger challenges together.
Grab lunch on-site, then switch gears with an escape room challenge. Work together to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and see if the family can beat the clock. Choose from Singularity or Pharaoh’s Revenge themed rooms, then round out your day with dinner at one of the on-site dining options before getting ready for tomorrow’s adventures.
Regional excursion #1: Shenandoah National Park / Skyline Drive
Spend the day exploring Shenandoah National Park along Skyline Drive, where spring brings fresh green mountain views, blooming wildflowers, and plenty of places to pull over and take it all in. Stop at a few overlooks, choose a family-friendly hike along the way, then grab lunch at a unique spot in nearby Elkton or continue into Harrisonburg for even more local dining before returning to Massanutten.
On-site recovery day: Waterpark + FlowRider + Diamond Jim’s Arcade
Trade the trails for the Waterpark and spend the morning on the slides, pools, and family-friendly attractions. Anyone ready for another challenge can add a FlowRider lesson and see who can find their balance on the wave.
Stay inside the Waterpark for lunch with a sit-down meal at Splash’s or something quick from the Snack Shack, then stop by Sweetz for a treat. Afterward, keep the friendly competition going with some time at Diamond Jim’s Arcade.
Tonight, grab dinner to go or make something in the condo, break out a favorite game, and enjoy a quieter family night together.
Regional excursion #2: Canoeing & kayaking on the Shenandoah River
Spend the day off the mountain and out on the Shenandoah River with a canoeing or kayaking adventure. Paddle through the Valley together, take in the spring scenery from the water, and enjoy a completely different side of the outdoors before grabbing lunch nearby and making your way back to Massanutten.
Flexible on-site day: Horseback riding + favorite adventure repeat
Start your last full day with a guided horseback ride through the mountain scenery, winding past wooded trails and open stretches along the way. Later, let everyone choose an encore from the week, whether that means another ride on the Mountain Coaster, more time on the bike trails, or another round at the Family Adventure Park.
For dinner, revisit a favorite on-site spot from the week, whether that’s Base Camp for casual mountain fare and relaxed views or Campfire Grill for wood-fired favorites and a seat outside by the fire on the deck.
Easy morning + checkout: Short on-site nature walk
Take one last walk along one of Massanutten’s shorter nature trails before checking out and enjoy a quieter look at the mountain after a week packed with adventure. If your route takes you through Harrisonburg, stop for lunch at a local favorite like Magpie Diner or Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza before starting the drive home.
