Your 7-Day Summer Adventure

Massanutten scenic spring summer spring creek waterfall 02

There are a lot of ways to experience summer in the Shenandoah Valley, and this week puts you right in the middle of it. Spend your days on the mountain, along the river, and exploring beyond the resort, with a few slower moments worked in when you’re ready to recharge. From the first ride down the Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster to the final scenic chairlift above the summertreeline, the week keeps the mountain at the center of the adventure. Use this itinerary as is to plan your getaway, or use it as inspiration to build your own summer adventure.

Your 7 Day Adventure!

Day 1

Arrival + on-site adventure: Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster

Welcome to Massanutten! Once you’ve checked in and settled into your accommodations, start the week with a ride on the Mountain Mayhem Mountain Coaster, an alpine-style coaster that lets you control your speed as you twist and turn your way down the mountain. Enjoy the green summer scenery along the way and get your first taste of adventure on the mountain.

Afterward, settle in at Campfire Grill for wood-fired pizza, steaks, burgers, and other comforting favorites. If the weather is nice, grab a seat outside by the fire on the deck for your first summer evening at Massanutten.

Day 2

Full on-site day: Mountain biking + Fishing at Painter’s Pond

Start the morning at the Massanutten Bike Park and spend a few hours exploring the mountain on two wheels. Newer riders can build confidence on more approachable terrain or join a group lesson, while experienced riders can take on lift-served downhill trails and more technical challenges.

Grab lunch on-site, then slow things down with an afternoon of fishing at Painter’s Pond. Bring your own poles and cast a few lines for trout and other species, or sign up for an afternoon fly-fishing lesson with gear included.

Finish the day at Base Camp with casual mountain fare and drinks, then check the resort calendar to see what’s happening that evening. Summer weekends often bring live music, while karaoke, comedy, and other seasonal events offer plenty of reasons to stay out a little longer.

Day 3

Regional excursion #1: Shenandoah National Park + Skyline Drive

Spend the day exploring Shenandoah National Park, using Skyline Drive as your route through the summer mountain scenery. Stop at overlooks along the way, then trade the car for the trail and choose a hike that lets you experience more of the park on foot.

Afterward, stop for lunch at a unique spot in nearby Elkton or continue into Harrisonburg for more local dining before returning to Massanutten.

Day 4

On-site recovery day: The Spa at Massanutten + Perfect Break

Give yourself a slower morning at The Spa at Massanutten with a massage, facial, body treatment, or couples massage after a few days of adventure. Enjoy some time in the quiet spa setting, then grab lunch on-site before easing into the afternoon.

Later, settle in at Perfect Break for a round of virtual golf in one of the Topgolf Swing Suites. Order something to share, enjoy table service and drinks, and add a little friendly competition to an otherwise relaxed afternoon.

Tonight, pick up something to cook in your condo and enjoy dinner with the summer mountain scenery outside before settling in for a quiet evening.

Day 5

Regional excursion #2: Canoeing or kayaking on the Shenandoah River

Trade the mountain trails for a day on the Shenandoah River with Massanutten Adventures. Paddle a scenic seven-mile stretch, and be sure to keep an eye out for bald eagles, blue herons, ducks, and other wildlife along the way. The trip is a good fit for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, with transportation from Massanutten, equipment, and a river orientation included.

Afterward, grab a bite in nearby Elkton or continue into downtown Harrisonburg for dinner before making your way back to the mountain.

Day 6

Flexible on-site day: Horseback riding + golf

Start your final full day with a guided horseback ride through Massanutten’s wooded trails and open mountain scenery. Ride beneath the summer foliage and enjoy the mountain views from the saddle before grabbing lunch on-site.

Spend the afternoon on one of Massanutten’s two 18-hole championship golf courses, Mountain Greens or Woodstone Meadows. Tee off surrounded by green mountain scenery, then finish your last full day with dinner on-site. If you’re not ready for the night to end, see what’s happening around the resort as part of Summer Jamboree, from live music at Base Camp and karaoke to comedy and other fun summer events.

Day 7

Easy morning + checkout: Scenic Chairlift

Spend your final morning with one last ride above the mountain on the scenic chairlift. Glide over the green summer treeline, look out across the Shenandoah Valley, and enjoy the view together before checking out. On your way home, stop for brunch or lunch in nearby Elkton or Harrisonburg before starting the drive back.
